City Colleges of Chicago faculty, staff will strike next week without new contract
CHICAGO (WLS) — Metropolis Faculties of Chicago’s school and workers will strike if they do not safe a brand new contract.
Nearly 1,500 instructors and different workers of the group schools mentioned they’ve set a strike date of Nov. 2 amid ongoing labor negotiations for a brand new labor settlement.
The academics union mentioned there was some progress in talks final week on points like pay, however they and Metropolis Faculties stay aside on quite a lot of sticking factors, together with points like distant work and sophistication sizes.
The prospect of a strike shutting down the faculty community grew after the Prepare dinner County Faculty Lecturers Union licensed a strike earlier this month.
Members held a rally Thursday night downtown at Chicago Lecturers Union headquarters. CTU president Stacey Davis Gates, Illinois Federation of Lecturers president Dan Montgomery and Chicago mayoral candidate Brandon Johnson all attended the rally.
Metropolis Faculties issued a press release, saying, “Metropolis Faculties continues to work carefully with the union to succeed in an settlement that ensures a profitable decision for all.”
