Financing new Arena subject of council committee meeting Tuesday
MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The Mobile City Council Finance Committee is scheduled to hold a meeting Tuesday concerning financing for the new Civic Center arena.
The announcement by the Director of Council Communications says the purpose of the meeting is to consider the structure and timing of additional long-term debt in connection with the new Civic Center arena.
The meeting is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
Council Member Joel Davis is the Chair of the Finance Committee. The other two members are Council Members William Carroll and Ben Reynolds.
In March, Mayor Sandy Stimpson announced plans to demolish the aging Mobile Civic Center and replace it with a nearly $300 million state-of-the-art facility.
Groundbreaking for the new arena was projected to take place in early 2025 with a ribbon-cutting in early 2027.
