The new trailer for “Ms. Marvel,” dotted with speech balloons straight out of a comic book ebook, introduces viewers to Kamala, a Muslim, Pakistani-American excessive schooler from New Jersey who doodles and daydreams about sooner or later becoming a member of the superheroes she idolizes. Kamala, who was launched in comics in 2013 earlier than getting her personal collection the next 12 months, was Marvel’s first Muslim-American superhero.
Although sooner or later our teenage hero (performed by Iman Vellani) will turn into one in all Marvel’s strongest crime fighters, the collection seems to function her origin story. The Kamala we meet encounters sniping classmates who mispronounce her title and poke enjoyable at her Avengers T-shirt. She gawks at a shirtless boy at a celebration surrounded by equally awed pals. And, crucially, she envisions herself as a model of Captain Marvel, a cosmic-powered icon within the MCU.

That daydream is pure fantasy, till it is not: The trailer would not present us simply how Kamala will get her powers or their extent (no spoilers right here) — she describes them as “cosmic.”

“It is probably not the brown ladies from Jersey Metropolis who save the world,” Kamala says at one level within the trailer. However “Ms. Marvel” the collection will possible show her incorrect.

What foes will Kamala face past highschool imply ladies and intimidatingly enticing classmates? Will her household study her super-powered secret? And when will she get to hitch her idol Captain Marvel in defending Earth from interstellar invaders? (She’s set to look within the upcoming “Captain Marvel” sequel “The Marvels.”)

The MCU loves a sluggish construct, so it is possible neither Kamala nor the viewers will get each query answered. Marvel followers have possible already begun theorizing, however they will have to attend till June 8, when the present begins streaming on Disney+, to see how Kamala’s story performs out.
