The only loss suffered by No. 3 Hawaii on Thursday came just before the start of the Outrigger Invitational.
Both matches scheduled for tonight, including UH playing No. 14 Lewis, were canceled due to the ongoing storm.
That leaves the Rainbow Warriors likely with only one match left before the start of Big West play, weather permitting, against No. 1 UCLA on Saturday night.
Both the Bruins and Rainbow Warriors began the tournament with sweeps, as Hawaii easily took care of Mount Olive 25-18, 25-19, 25-17.
A Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center crowd of 3,329, who arrived just before the start of a major downpour, saw 13 Rainbow Warriors get into the game.
Kristian Titiryski had a match-high 10 kills and two aces in his first match in nearly two months and Finn Kearney added nine kills.
Adrien Roure had five kills in the opening set before resting the next two sets.
Hawaii hit a season-high .603 and Justin Todd set a career high with four aces.
“Always good to get some guys some run,” Hawaii coach Charlie Wade said. “Pretty pleased with the offensive efficiency. No matter who we rolled out there seemed to do a nice job.”
Kearney sparked the Rainbow Warriors with back-to-back aces out of the media timeout in the opening set.
UH scored 13 of the final 19 points in the set after it was tied 12-12 and hit .650 with only one hitting error.
UH brought in three new starters for the second set, including Titriyski, who played for the first time since Jan. 14 against Rockhurst.
He was met with a prolonged ovation when his name was introduced over the PA system and then minutes later unloaded on his first opportunity for a kill.
“It was just nice to play,” Titriyski said. “I was really happy to see that. If (the fans) like me so much then I had to do something.”
Kearney and Titriyski each finished with six kills in the second set and Todd and Kai Taylor added aces.
Freshman outside hitter Thatcher Fahlbusch made his third appearance of the season in the third set and put down all four of his kill attempts.
Todd had three of his aces in the third set and had a chance to serve for the match but hammered a ball into the net.
“I missed that serve because I was wearing the same shoes the whole game and it actually blew up and I had to change shoes before my last rotation,” Todd said. “I think it was because of the shoe. I had to change and It felt different and I was thinking about it too.”
Hawaii hit .632 in the final set playing all reserves at the pin hitter positions.
Setter Tread Rosenthal played the entire match and had 36 assists, six digs and three kills. Wade said he would have likely used backup setter Magnus Hettervik if tonight’s game was still on.
“If it was going to be three days in a row, I would have started a little different lineup,” Wade said. “As it started going, it was like, I really need to see Finn and Kristian with Tread in that environment. That was good too.”
With the entire campus shut down, Hawaii won’t practice today. For exchange or refunds of today’s single-game tickets, contact the Stan Sheriff Center Ticket Office.
UH’s softball games against Cal State Fullerton have been moved to noon and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Also, the Rainbow Wahine volleyball team has canceled its scheduled day trip to Kauai to host a practice and a keiki clinic.
NO. 1 UCLA 3, NO. 14 LEWIS 0
Bruins middle blocker Cameron Thorne led a balanced attack with 10 kills and hit .643 to help the Bruins sweep the Flyers 25-22, 25-23, 25-19.
Sean Kelly and David Decker had nine kills each for UCLA (17-0), which defeated Hawaii in the national semifinals last season.
Daniel Haber had a match-high 14 kills for Lewis (12-8).
