Where’s Waldo? Find him around downtown Augusta
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Be on the lookout if you are in downtown Augusta. It’s time to play Where’s Waldo.
Waldo is hiding in 21 local downtown Augusta businesses throughout July. Waldo and his friends have each lost a precious item inside the Book Tavern.
“If you get 10 locations, then you’ll get a happy button. Our friend Porkchop, Leonard Zimmerman, designed it especially for this year’s Waldo adventure and we’re really, really excited about that,” said David Hutchinson, co-owner of Book Tavern.
You can grab your passport from the Book Tavern to start your scavenger hunt journey to win prizes.
Organizers say if you collect 18 or more stamps, you will be entered into a drawing for a six-volume deluxe set of Waldo books and other prizes.

West Augusta festival celebrates Cinco de Mayo with Latin cuisine
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – An organization celebrated Cinco de Mayo ahead of Tuesday’s holiday with a festival Saturday on Madeline Drive.
The West Augusta Six Geter Foundation held its Flavor Street Festival Latin Edition, featuring food including empanadas, nachos, fajitas and desserts.
“We decided to do a rendition for our Latin brothers and sisters Latin fiesta to bring in the Cinco de Mayo holiday, that’s very important to them as well as the community,” said Patricia Geter, West Augusta Six Geter Foundation and community activist. “Each month we hold the street fest to acknowledge different types of cuisines, cultures, and we are hoping to have a car show in the fall for our festival.”
Geter said the organization holds street festivals every first Saturday of the month.

VFW post serves barbecue lunch to veterans at Augusta nursing home
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Saturday marked the fifth annual VFW Day of Service with veteran-led community service projects.
The Day of Service started as a way to highlight veterans’ and service members’ efforts of helping their communities after serving. VFW Post 6445 in Harlem served a barbecue lunch for residents at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home in Augusta on Saturday.
Post leaders said the event is a way to honor the veterans’ service while building camaraderie.
“They all went somewhere, and they survived. You have to be a war veteran to be in here, right? Maybe someone went to war, but we get to leave at the end of the day. They don’t get to leave. And to see a smile on their face, that’s what makes it all worth it while they get to talk to somebody. And when they start to ring them down, you see they all have some kind of hat on, just to see a fellow veteran,” said Ronald Gilchrest, commander of Post 6445.
The VFW service projects will continue throughout the month of May in the U.S.

Burger King employee dispute ends in shooting near Augusta Mall
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A fight between two Burger King employees ended in a shooting Friday evening inside the restaurant on Wrightsboro Road, across from the Augusta Mall, law enforcement officials say.
The victim was taken to an Augusta hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to law enforcement sources. The employee who had the gun was arrested, authorities said.
It’s unclear what started the argument. Crime scene investigators were called to the scene. We sent our crews to the scene as well.
This is not the first time a dispute inside an Augusta Burger King ended with gunfire. Earlier this year, a dispute at the Burger King on Deans Bridge Road ended with shots fired.
