College students across Florida are receiving their diplomas

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – More than 10-thousand graduates from all 50 states as well as 86 other countries are receiving their diplomas from the University of Florida during tonight’s commencement ceremony.

UF President Ben Sasse went on to say that 719 of those students are first-generation graduates.

National Geographic photographer and former Gator graduate ‘Carlton Ward Junior’ was the keynote speaker tonight.

He is recognized and known for his photography, capturing images of the rare Florida panther.

Students at Santa Fe College walked to claim their diplomas after completing their AA, AS, and Bachelor’s degrees.

1-thousand 5-hundred and 65 students graduated during the college’s commencement ceremony.

College President Paul Brodie highlighted the accomplishments of Daniel Wilson, who he says despite being a full-time caregiver for his daughter, volunteering at the Children’s Table, and being a former marine, he was able to receive his degree after some years.

And more than 300 students graduated from Florida Gateway College in Lake City today.

Guest speakers included student government president Zamaria Granado of Branford and Zoey Nettles who is taking her Associate’s degrees to ‘Flagler College’ in Saint Augustine.

Special graduates who were acknowledged included members of FGC’s ‘national champion’ flag football team.

Olympic gold medalist Sha’Carri Richardson charged with speeding in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Olympic gold medalist Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested and charged with speeding in Florida on Thursday, according to law enforcement.

Richardson was arrested for allegedly going 104 mph (167 kph) on a parkway just outside of Orlando. A spokesperson for the Orange County sheriff’s department said she was “dangerously tailgating and traveling across lanes of travel to pass other motorists.”

The 25-year-old sprinter is one of the fastest women of all time, winning a silver medal in the 100 meters in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, and gold in the 4×100 relay that same year. Richardson’s Olympic medals came after she was disqualified from the 2020 Olympics when she tested positive for chemicals found in marijuana.

Last year, Richardson issued a public apology to her boyfriend, Christian Coleman, after she was arrested on a fourth-degree domestic violence offense for allegedly assaulting Coleman at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in July.

Rooftop Cinema Club South Beach is known for its skyline views and wireless headphones, but on Wednesday, the speakers were pumping 100% Benito.

The prizes for Bad Bunny Bingo ranged from free movie tickets to themed merch, but for most, the real win is the atmosphere and a community of likeminded fans.

The world will be watching when Bad Bunny takes the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show stage on Feb. 8 from Levi Stadium in Santa Clara.
