This California city will issue fines for off-leash dogs

Pasadena residents who let their dogs roam free without a leash could be fined up to $500 beginning Thursday, city officials announced Wednesday.

It’s prohibited for dogs to be off-leashed, except for at Alice’s Dog Park in Viña Vieja Park and Playhouse Village Dog Park, which are designated off-leash areas.

“To ensure the safety of all park visitors, the City of Pasadena will begin issuing citations to dog owners with dogs off-leash starting Thursday, Feb. 22. Pasadena Humane will enforce leash requirements and continue to provide the community with education on dog-leashing,” a news release said.

Officials also stated that dogs on leashes “reduce the risk for dog attacks on other dogs and humans and lower the risk of other accidents, such as dogs being hit by passing cars.”

Anyone who sees an unleashed dog outside designated areas is encouraged to contact Pasadena Humane at (626) 792-7151, ext. 102.
