Chaparrastique volcano in El Salvador erupts, local municipalities on alert

Authorities in El Salvador on Monday warned residents close to the Chaparrastique volcano within the nation’s east to be alert after it started to erupt.

The Environmental Ministry’s observatory reported explosions within the central crater of the volcano situated about 83 miles east of the capital. It mentioned the eruption’s depth was a 1 on a scale from 0 to eight.

The eruption started Sunday when the volcano launched rock and ash to areas surrounding the crater. There have been no reported accidents.

Civil Protection Director Luis Alonso Amaya mentioned three municipalities have been on alert.

Authorities have been making ready 26 shelters that might accommodate greater than 10,000 individuals and putting in a command put up to offer essentially the most present data on the volcano’s exercise.

The protection zone was prolonged to a radius of three.7 miles from the crater.
