Wyoming roads can be unpredictable, being prepared in case of an emergency can save your life

CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – With wild winter weather ahead, car troubles are inevitable.

If you find yourself caught in a winter storm, slow down and pull over if conditions prevent you from seeing the road. If your car gets stuck on the side of the road during a storm, stay in your vehicle where rescuers can find you. Run the heat in your vehicle for ten minutes every hour  to save gas and stay warm. It’s important to keep a safety kit in your car, including water, blankets, a pair of gloves, and other necessities in case of an emergency. Always check road conditions before you start your journey. Making the choice to stay home can save your life.

Tony Mayne is the media relations specialist for FEMA Region 8. He says, “The most important thing is watch the news, watch the news, watch the news! If you know there’s going to be a big winter storm coming, don’t travel, that’s the first thing and foremost. Have a kit. Look locally, follow those local radio stations, get the local weather, so you know what you’re going to be facing if you’re going to be on those roads. Make sure you have the equipment you need to survive, make sure somebody knows you’re coming, and make sure you’ve got a kit for your car.”
