MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, Wyo. — Earlier this week, Yellowstone National Park began closing certain fishing spots at 2 p.m. each day due to warm water temperatures and low river flows.

Water temperatures in certain rivers and streams have exceeded 68 degrees in recent days, while flows remain low. According to park staff, these conditions can be lethal to trout.

The park reports that there is not yet a set date for when regular schedules will resume, and the early daily closures will remain in effect until conditions improve.

  • The Madison River and all associated tributaries
  • The Firehole River and all associated tributaries
  • The Gibbon River and all associated tributaries downstream of Norris Campground

Yellowstone Lake and all other lakes not previously named will remain open to fishing from sunrise to sunset.
