University of Wyoming receives grant from National Science Foundation

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – The University of Wyoming and partner institutions have been awarded an innovation grant of up to $160M by the National Science Foundation.

The funds will be used to used to help efforts in driving innovation, technology, and economic growth.

The Colorado – Wyoming Climate Resilience Engine is one of the ten recipients of the NSF’s inaugural regional innovation engines program.

UW will seek opportunities to co-create technologies in soil carbon and carbon offsets; methane monitoring and detection, resilient energy expansion, earth sensing, smart communities, complex modeling technologies, data capture, and other technology areas of interest.

“This is under the sort of overall idea that the changes in the climate are gonna necessitate some new technologies for people to thrive and succeed and so this is about developing those technologies kind of in an academic setting and then taking them out for commercial application as well,” said Chad Baldwin, Associate Vice President of Communications and Marketing for the University of Wyoming.

This prestigious award places the Co-Wy Engine at the forefront of the nation’s environmental and climate technology initiatives.
