Calls for Wyoming mayor to resign following fake elector scheme charges
WYOMING, Mich. — On Monday, Wyoming City Council held its first meeting since Wyoming Mayor Kent Vanderwood was charged as a fake elector in the 2020 election.
The Mayor kept his composure throughout the meeting. During public comment, a long line was formed with many passionately condemning the Mayor’s actions — asking him to step down.
The mayor has every right to due process and I respect that, but we cannot sweep this under the rug. His name is on this paper. You can’t deny that. This is a stain on this city a stain on our state
Public Comment
Mayor you need to remove yourself from this position. If you choose not to city council you need to council him to remove himself for the good of the city.
Public comment
Despite the frustration we heard, there were also people who stood up in support of the mayor, voicing their appreciation for him and calling him a man of integrity.
I’ve known Kent Vanderwood for a number of years this man is a man of integrity, he is a man who absolutely loves this country he loves the constitution and loves the lord.
Public comment
We have the right to have alternate electors when there’s a question about the integrity of the election and there were many questions about that.
Public comment
Last week, Vanderwood’s attorney released a statement saying that the mayor will not voluntarily recuse himself, and looks forward to being vindicated in Ingham County.
Mayor Vanderwood is one of 16 people who has been charged by the attorney general’s office in the fake elector scheme. Each of them is facing eight felonies. If convicted, they could spend up to 85 years behind bars.
