Washington County vacates part of 140th Street

WASHINGTON — A roughly 1,000-foot portion of one hundred and fortieth Road in Lime Creek Township, within the far west reaches of Washington County, is not public property.

The Washington County Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed to a quitclaim deed closing the stretch of street and transferring possession of it and an unnamed intersecting road — within the unincorporated former city of Nira — after a public listening to Tuesday morning. The western restrict of one hundred and fortieth Road is now the duty of the adjoining land homeowners.

County Engineer Jacob Thorius mentioned the world was not a usable street.

“We’ve checked out it, and located that there isn’t a cause to maintain this as a street, we’ve not been sustaining it as a street,” County Engineer Jacob Thorius mentioned. “That is thought-about one hundred and fortieth Road … however it’s all grown up with bushes, it’s not being maintained as a street, it’s not getting used.”

Thorius mentioned there was no cost to the land homeowners for the transferred possession, because the county had no use or want for the land at present marked as a street on authorities maps.

“I’m completely superb with (them) approaching us for this, and releasing it again to all of the adjoining land homeowners,” he mentioned.

Kevin Beachy, who owns the land, mentioned the transfer allowed him to handle what was successfully his property, and permit him to maintain out individuals who would in any other case dump trash within the space.
