Former Washington legislator buys Portland Mercury and The Stranger

Alternative publication the Portland Mercury and its sister paper in Seattle, The Stranger, have been sold to a former Democratic Washington lawmaker and media executive, according to the union representing the papers’ writers.

It’s the latest in a string of deals for Northwest papers this year amid rapidly shifting dynamics in the news media ecosystem.
