No children injured in school bus crash that shut down I-15
MIDVALE, Utah — Traffic was at a standstill for hours Saturday evening on Interstate 15 in Salt Lake County due to a crash involving a school bus.
Utah Highway Patrol said they were called to the scene of the crash on southbound I-15 near 8500 South around 5 p.m.
The bus reportedly rear-ended a car. UHP said the car was carrying a load and began to lose it, so the driver hit their brakes. The bus driver braked as well but wasn’t able to stop in time.
UHP officials later confirmed that there were 20 children on the bus, but none were injured. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Multiple lanes were closed due to the accident. The bus was towed away just before 8 p.m.
The lane closures caused traffic to be at a near standstill as far north as 5000 South, according to witnesses.
