Monsoon surge drops six inches on Honeyville before leaving Utah
HONEYVILLE, Utah — Monsoon season thunderstorms over the past 48 hours have dropped astonishing amounts of rain across the Wasatch Front, especially in Box Elder County.
Christine Kruse from the National Weather Service said Honeyville, population 1,168, got more rain than anywhere else in the state.
“We had a report in Honeyville of 5.83 inches of rain, and Corinne 3.76 inches of rain. So those are incredible totals for Utah.”
Kruse said the rainclouds parked themselves above Honeyville around 6:30 yesterday morning, “and it was still going at noon.”
Some storms ended much more quickly. KSL meteorologist Matt Johnson said, “Draper picked up two inches of rain in less than an hour.” That downpour forced an early ending to a Real Salt Lake game in Sandy, which saw just under an inch of water.
The rain totals from last night’s severe thunderstorm tell the story. Flooded homes, basements, parks and roads are what we are waking up to this morning. #utwx ⛈️ pic.twitter.com/QDapD7CsU2

Kruse said this is the last of monsoon weather for most of Utah, but she predicts a few thunderstorms could still hit northwestern Utah today.
