NEW DELHI: The Seattle Seahawks have reportedly enlisted Leslie Frazier to serve as assistant head coach under newly appointed head coach Mike Macdonald. Frazier, who took the 2023 season off after a six-year tenure as the defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills, will bring a wealth of experience to the Seahawks.
At 64 years old, Frazier will provide valuable mentorship to the 36-year-old Macdonald, who is now the youngest head coach in the NFL.The two previously worked together on the Baltimore Ravens‘ staff in 2016, and Macdonald views Frazier as a mentor. Frazier’s role as assistant head coach is expected to involve providing guidance and serving as a sounding board for Macdonald as he navigates his first head coaching position.
Seattle recently hired Macdonald as the head coach, marking a significant change after Super Bowl-winning coach Pete Carroll was moved to a front-office advisory role following the 2023 season. Macdonald, with Frazier’s support, will be tasked with leading the team and implementing his vision for the Seahawks.
Frazier, a former head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, had a three-plus season stint in that role, taking over on an interim basis in 2010 and subsequently holding the position for three full seasons. During his time with the Bills, Frazier achieved notable success, coordinating the league’s No. 1 defense in both scoring and yardage in 2021, as well as the No. 2 scoring defense in 2019 and 2022. His defensive expertise and coaching experience make him a valuable addition to the Seahawks’ coaching staff.
