Seattle Restaurants Rally Around Immigration Rights Issue

More than 100 restaurants, bars, cafes and popups are participating in a weekend-long Feb. 7-9 fundraising effort aimed at supporting immigration rights initiatives and organizations. Here’s a list of where to dine, a lineup that reads like the who’s who on the city’s culinary landscape.

The spirited effort to support immigration rights in light of the current administration’s current mass deportations quickly picked up steam when members of the restaurant community began to brainstorm.

“It came together in a week, which was pretty fast,” said Eric Tanaka from Tom Douglas Restaurants. “I think everyone wanted to get on board. It was an easy yes.”

The effort was announced over social media on Monday afternoon and the response so far has been positive. “This is why we love being part of this community, especially when it comes to people we work with, recognizing what they mean to restaurants, as key members of the team, they’re like family.”

Each restaurant is handling the weekend writing its own script, whether that means offering specials or donating a portion of the sales. The Northwest Immigrants Rights Project is the organization identified as the primary beneficiary but each restaurant makes the call if they have another organization they plan to focus on.
