SB I-5 shut down in Downtown Seattle after vehicle with liquid oxygen catches fire, explodes

The southbound lanes of Interstate 5 shut down Thursday afternoon in Downtown Seattle after a car with liquid oxygen tanks caught hearth and commenced exploding.

All lanes had been closed round 1:30 p.m. between Mercer and State Route 520. At round 2:30 p.m., the northbound lanes reopened. It was not instantly clear what induced the hearth.

Authorities stated there have been liquid oxygen tanks on the car which had been exploding for at the very least half-hour.

Officers are warning residents residing close to I-5 at Lakeview Blvd. E to shut their home windows and doorways to keep away from getting poisonous smoke publicity from the hearth.

The Washington State Patrol requested drivers to keep away from the realm because the backup was shortly rising.
