Report reveals why Washington, Seattle have not hired head coaches yes

The Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders still have not decided on new head coaches after conducting several interviews, but it appears both teams are dragging out the process for a reason.

The Seahawks and Commanders are waiting to interview several head coach candidates whose teams are playing in the NFC and AFC Championship Games on Sunday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is widely believed to be at the top of Washington’s list. Schefter says the Commanders also want to hold second interviews with Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Baltimore Ravens assistants Mike Macdonald and Anthony Weaver. Schefter reports that those other assistant coaches — in addition to Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn — remain “very much in play” even with Washington having high interest in Johnson.

The Seahawks also interviewed Johnson and want to speak with him again. Quinn, who was once an assistant in Seattle, has also been linked to his former team. If the Seahawks want to interview Macdonald, NFL rules would require them to wait until Baltimore’s season ends since they have not conducted a first interview with him yet.

There is one high-profile candidate who still does not have a job, but the Commanders and Seahawks do not appear to have interest. At least one of the teams will likely hire a coach who is still currently working.

Here, Kitty, Kitty: Scenes from POP Cats Seattle 2026

A whimsical world of whiskers, creativity, and community took over Seattle Center this weekend as POP Cats 2026 returned for a celebration of all things feline. The immersive convention turned the Exhibition Hall into a vibrant ‘cat city,’ complete with colorful art installations, interactive exhibits and endless photo ops. From adoptable rescue cats and hands-on workshops to cosplay, shopping, and meetups with fellow cat lovers, the event blended fun with purpose. Attendees could even bring their own cats, making it one of the few conventions where pets are part of the experience. Felines and their human friends embraced a joyful, cat-filled escape and one meow-velous weekend in Seattle. (Image: Elizabeth Crook / Seattle Refined) April 18, 2026{ }

WEST SEATTLE WEATHER: Warm day, but far below record

Thanks to Carrie Brown for the westward view of our Saturday night sunset. The high today hit 68 at the airport – eight degrees above normal – but nowhere near the record for this date, which was 89 degrees back in 2016. The forecast suggests two more days of partly sunny, almost-70-degree weather, before the chance of rain returns.
