The Tigers are feeling confident heading into the final game of the set. After squeaking out a win on Friday night, they came back with a convincing effort on Saturday. After scoring runs in the second and third inning, the Bengals put up a four-spot in the fifth inning, and were able to waltz the rest of the way to a 6-0 win, helping the team to their first series win in two weeks.
Kerry Carpenter almost single-handily led the Tigers’ offense in the second game of the series, going 2-for-4 with two home runs, driving in a total of four RBIs.
Detroit is still third in the American League Central, five games back of the Minnesota Twins, who still hold first place. The Mariners are also third in their division, but trail the Texas Rangers by eight games in the AL West. Seattle also lost ground in the Wild Card race, as they are 5.5 games behind the Houston Astros for the last playoff spot.
The Bengals have a chance to sweep an opponent for the first time since they won all three games against the New York Mets back in early May. The Mariners have not been swept since early June, when they dropped a trio of games to the Rangers in Arlington.
PROBABLE STARTERS
- DET: Reese Olson (1-2, 4.05 ERA)
