San Francisco Police and Pride parade organizers reach compromise to allow some uniformed officers to participate
“Delight grew out of conflicts between LGBTQ communities and police at Compton’s Cafeteria and Stonewall Inn,” the teams mentioned in a joint assertion. “Ever since then, we now have tried to bridge that divide. That’s the reason we’re grateful to have reached a compromise answer in the present day. It reveals everyone seems to be working within the spirit of Delight to come back collectively!”
All first responders will march in a single contingency, with command employees sporting their mandated uniforms and a small variety of LGBTQ officers in uniform offering safety for the contingent, in response to the assertion. All of those officers will probably be on-duty, a spokesperson for the organizations mentioned.
All different off-duty officers within the contingency will put on informal Delight attire representing the police division as beforehand allowed by parade planners.
“I recognize how our LGBTQ cops and public security staff got here along with the Delight Board to provide you with a compromise,” Mayor London Breed mentioned in an announcement.
“The understanding and respect they confirmed one another is reflective of this 12 months’s pleasure theme: love brings us collectively. Delight Month brings folks from all over the world to have fun in San Francisco and I’m pleased with everybody concerned who listened to one another this previous week and targeted on what unites us.”
Along with the authorized first responders’ contingency, SFPOPA mentioned it can work with Police Chief William Scott’s workplace to “reinvigorate” the Chief’s LGBTQ Police Advisory Discussion board.
