Could this be a possible Super Bowl matchup?
Teams hanging around the top of their conference will meet in a juicy matchup when the San Francisco 49ers (5-3) head East to face the Jacksonville Jaguars (6-2).
A bye week came at the perfect time for the 49ers, as they’ve seen their 5-0 start turn into a three-game losing skid. But things may be turning around, thanks to general manager pulling off a big win at the trade deadline by getting Chase Young to bolster what already has been a top of the NFL defense. If Brock Purdy can get back into his 2022-self, San Francisco can quickly get back into the Super Bowl picture.
Another team coming off a bye, Jacksonville is showing the promise of their young squad with a five-game winning streak that puts them near the top of the AFC. All sides of the ball have been on point, as the Jaguars are poised to win another division title and be a serious contender in the playoffs.

Lorenzo Reyes: 49ers 25, Jaguars 20
This is a really difficult game to call because the 49ers have been in a slump and have also been dealing with injuries. If Deebo Samuel and Trent Williams can return, San Francisco becomes really tough to beat. Both teams are coming off a bye, but I trust Kyle Shanahan and his staff a little more to have a calculated game plan. The Niners are weak in the secondary, however, and Trevor Lawrence can exploit that. Honestly, I can see this one going either way.
Tyler Dragon: 49ers 24, Jaguars 20
No team needed a Week 9 bye more than the 49ers, losers of three in a row. Deebo Samuel and Trent Williams are tracking to play. Plus, the 49ers front seven added another stud in Chase Young. Playing on the road in Jacksonville will be difficult but San Francisco bounces back this week.
Safid Deen: Jaguars 34, 49ers 30
It might sound crazy picking the 49ers to lose their fourth straight game. But the Jaguars are not a team that should be overlooked. Travis Etienne might be the second-best running back in the league behind Christian McCaffrey, and the Jaguars offense can light it up with the best of them. The 49ers should get Deebo Samuel and Trent Williams back, but the Jaguars defense will slow Brock Purdy down. Jacksonville makes a statement at home over San Francisco this week.
Victoria Hernandez: 49ers 24, Jaguars 23
Both teams will feel refreshed after their bye weeks, but the 49ers have more to play for to stop a three-game skid after starting the season 5-0 and Trevor Lawrence might still be hobbled by a knee injury. The addition and enthusiasm of Chase Young should help recharge San Francisco’s defense and if they get Deebo Samuel back, that’s an added bonus.
Jordan Mendoza: 49ers 29, Jaguars 26
Both squads were headed in opposite directions going into their bye week. Jacksonville has scored at least 20 points during it winning streak, while San Francisco has scored 17 points in each loss. the Jacksonville offense will continue to score, but San Francisco turns it around with a much better offensive performance in what should be a game that comes down to the final minutes.
