Now you get free coffee when you take the San Francisco Bay Ferry

If you need another reason to take the Bay Area’s loveliest and most underappreciated form of public transit — the ferry — here it is: Free coffee.

Today, the San Francisco Bay Ferry announced that all passengers on weekday-morning trips are entitled to cups of java. The promotion is the latest thing the ferry is doing to get butts in seats – it also recently upgraded its Wi-Fi service, which is complimentary.

“Commuters on San Francisco Bay Ferry know what a remarkable quality-of-life improvement it is to start and end their workday with a beautiful boat ride,” said Seamus Murphy, executive director of the San Francisco Bay Ferry, in a media statement. “We encourage locals heading back to the office to give the ferry a try. Just know that it’s really hard to go back to driving, once you get a taste for the ferry experience.”

A literal taste, in this case. The coffee promotion currently has no end date – it goes until supplies run out. Better yet, it’s tied to a fundraiser for local food banks. The coffee stations have QR codes that passengers can scan to donate to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano counties and the Alameda County Community Food Bank. The promotion has already raised hundreds of dollars, according to the ferry service.
