The San Francisco 49ers will travel to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in the season opener for both teams Sunday at 1 p.m. (FOX). Below, we look at 49ers vs. Steelers odds from BetMGM Sportsbook. Also see: SportsbookWire’s NFL picks and predictions.

After an offseason of whining about what could have been, 49ers fans will have a chance to finally prove it on the field Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Starting QB Brock Purdy has made a great recovery and Sam Darnold was able to beat out Trey Lance as the backup. Lance, who never lived up to being the No. 3 overall pick in the draft, was traded to the Dallas Cowboys. With Darnold now the only backup to Purdy, San Fransisco will have to hope its QB luck changes in 2023.

The Steelers had a sluggish start to the 2022 season. Rookie QB Kenny Pickett took a long time to find his comfort level. When he did, he found a connection with WR George Pickens. After a full season of workouts, this could become the next great QB-WR duo for the Steelers. If Najee Harris can return to his rookie form of 2 years ago (307 carries, 1,200 yards, 7 TDs), the Steelers offense could once again shine bright.

49ers vs. Steelers head-to-head

These teams have not met since the 2019 season, which the 49ers won 24-20, and are 2-2 in the past 4 meetings.

In each of the past 4 meetings, the home team has won. The last game in 2019, when the Steelers were 6-point underdogs, was the only time the favorite has not covered. One of these trends will lose on Sunday as the Steelers are the underdog and the home team.

Both teams will have a 2nd-year QB leading their offenses. But only Pickett comes into the game completely healthy and with no concerns.
