OBITUARY
Born in Gary, Indiana, his family moved to Coral Gables, Florida, when he was five years old. After graduating from high school they moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he attended Arizona State University. In 1957 he moved to El Cajon where he met his future wife, Joan. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in June. He leaves behind their children Dale, Catherine, and Russell and 13 grandchildren.Mel loved cars, motorcycles, and boats – taking many trips through Mexico, the west coast and land sailing at El Mirage dry lake bed. He was a member of El Cajon Elks Lodge 1812, Lake Havasu Elks Lodge, Rocky Roadrunners RV club, Elks camping group, and the San Diego MG car club.Memorial services are scheduled for Thursday, September 26, 11:00 a.m., at Singing Hills Memorial Park, El Cajon.
