Fairness of city policies questioned by those with little trash
Re “Facing sticker shock from residents, San Diego council members defend trash pickup pricing plan” (Feb. 14): I am confused. Every week a trash truck comes by to take our trash to the dump. Whether the can is empty or full, the truck still comes by. It costs the same.
Also, why is it less expensive to take a small trash can to the dump rather than a large one? It’s the same trip to the dump.
We are a retired couple and rarely generate a wastebasket full of trash per week. It’s ridiculous to pay $53 for this service. This sounds like the city is trying to raise taxes without a vote. This is just another ripoff by the city.

Regarding all the talk about San Diego needing money and the new trash pickup fees: How are they going to make it fair? I live alone and so far this year I have put my blue and black cans out one time. Others in my neighborhood with three or four people in a house put theirs out every week.
In my neighborhood, one or two blocks away, the trucks go down the street and alley at the same address. Will they get two bills?
If there was a way for the truck driver to make some notes as to what address have no can and the houses which have all cans out each time they are due, maybe the billing could take that into consideration.
At the stores, we all buy things, but not everyone gets the same things. In putting the cans out, not all of us do the same things.
