Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA) is proud to announce Allied Craftsmen: Hands On Design, an exhibition that redefines the boundaries of contemporary craft.

The juried showcase, on display at the museum from until August 18, features works from the Allied Craftsmen of San Diego, the oldest professional organization of craft artists in Southern California.

This exhibition aims to illuminate the extraordinary materials, mastery, and creative vigor that define the group, fostering a deeper appreciation for contemporary craft within our community and beyond.

Allied Craftsmen: Hands On Design stands at the intersection of tradition and innovation. The exhibition aims to connect the community with the rich heritage and future potential of craft, demonstrating its role in shaping a better world.

Visitors will be inspired by the diverse materials, expertise, and strength of creativity that characterize the Allied Craftsmen of San Diego.

“The Allied Craftsmen is thrilled about the opportunity to show again at Oceanside Museum of Art,” said Allied Craftsmen President David Brown. “We are excited to bring our unique and diverse brand of fine craft back to the institution.”

Celebrating San Diego’s Artistic Diversity

The exhibition is juried by Guusje Sanders, Curator at the Mingei International Museum, bringing with her a decade of experience in the art world.

Having previously served as Associate Curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art, San Diego, Sanders has cultivated a keen eye for innovative and transformative works.

“Hands on Design showcases some of San Diego’s amazing local talent and celebrates the beauty of storytelling through craft traditions,” said Sanders.
