OBITUARY

Barbara passed away on August 23, 2024 from complications of dementia. She was born in Kansas City, MO on December 8, 1944 to Edison W. and Dorothy I. Odle. She was the third of four children, and the family soon moved to North San Diego County where she spent the rest of her life.Barbara lived a wonderfully ordinary life, filled with family, friends and laughter. She attended local schools: Encinitas Central, Oak Crest Junior High, and San Dieguito High School. She graduated from San Diego State University, and raised her two sons, Christian and Torrey, with her husband, John, in Cardiff. She was a San Diego County social worker in Escondido, worked at Cardiff Elementary School and at the Del Mar Racetrack during racing season, taking folks up to the Turf Club in her elevator. With her extensive circle of friends, she created a weekly summer beach party at Moonlight Beach which lasted for 50 years. She and John sailed all over, and even lived on board their boat in Oceanside Harbor for a time. They camped nationwide in their pop-up trailer. She traveled abroad toIreland, Italy and the Rhine, but loved her corner of the world best. She was sweet and generous, but had a wicked sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.Barbara is survived by John, her husband of 56 years, her sisters, Dawn Sturgill and Denise Pratchner, her sons, Christian and Torrey Nommesen, her nephew Ian Bayne, her niece, Holly Bayne, and her grandchildren, Zhenya, Princeton and Infinity Nommesen.A celebration of life will be held at a later date, probably in November.
