Waitlists abound for Oregon families seeking publicly funded child care

More than 7,600 Oregon families are now on the waitlist for state subsidized child care designed to help low-income parents remain employed or in college.

Thousands of families have been cooling their heels since November, when the waitlist for Employment Related Day Care officially opened after the state loosened the criteria to take part and interest in enrollment zoomed past lawmakers’ willingness to cover the costs.
