Sneaker wave warning issued for Oregon coast Sunday
The National Weather Service is warning beachgoers that the Oregon coast is at increased risk for sneaker waves Sunday.
Sneaker waves are a sudden rush of water far above the expected tide. They can catch beachgoers by surprise and drag them out to the ocean, where cold temperatures can be deadly.
Dangerous sneaker waves are possible along the coast Sunday. Beachgoers can be knocked down 🙴 dragged into the ocean by these waves resulting in injury or drowning. Stay back from the waves 🙴 avoid climbing on rocks, jetties, and logs. pic.twitter.com/Hvf0rLvZWW
