Readers respond: 10 years of Oregon same-sex marriage

This month marks 10 years since same-sex couples finally won the freedom to marry in Oregon.

I was privileged to officiate the weddings of several same-sex couples who married that day, and my wife Amber and I legally married shortly after – a simple event, largely because we had “married” each other twice already, first in a ceremony in front of 100+ loved ones, the second when couples were briefly legally able to marry in Multnomah County, later declared null and void. We didn’t expect our third ceremony to feel as meaningful as it did. But as we recalled our vows, I was surprised to feel very moved, grateful that the state I love finally honored our love.
