No. 5 Oregon softball rallies past Oregon State to secure season series
They may be worlds apart as softball programs in 2025, but it went to the final at-bat for No. 5 Oregon to separate itself from Oregon State in the season series.
Emma Cox’s two-run seventh-inning single put the Ducks ahead and Rylee McCoy added a sacrifice fly in a 5-3 UO win Wednesday night at Kelly Field.
The road team won all three games between the rivals with Oregon (39-4) taking the series for the fifth straight year. UO has won 13 of the last 17 meetings.
Oregon State (17-17) struck early, with RBI singles from Lici Campbell and Jaeya Butler making it 2-0 in the first.
Oregon got on the board in the fourth via a fielder’s choice ground out and Oregon State got the run back in the bottom of the inning on a single by Morgan Howey.
Cox hit an RBI single in the fifth to make it 3-2.
The Ducks rallied in the seventh as Kai Luschar singled, Paige Sinicki was hit by a pitch and Kedre Luschar walked to load the bases for Cox. She singled to right to give Oregon the lead and McCoy followed with a fly ball to center to make it a two-run cushion.
Oregon State’s Ellie Garcia allowed five runs on five hits, four walks and one hit batter with two strikeouts over seven innings in the loss.
The Beavers got the tying run aboard with two outs, but Lyndsey Grein struck out Ella Dardis to end it.
Grein allowed one hit, walked one and struck out five in two innings of winning relief.
Oregon hosts No. 6 UCLA for a three-game series beginning at 7 p.m. Friday.
Oregon State heads to San Diego for a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Friday.
