This season, fans of “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” have seen host Guy Fieri try some pretty tasty-looking dishes from eateries in central Oregon. That scenic part of the state gets more attention in the Friday, Aug. 18 Triple D episode, whose focus is revealed by the title, “Dumpling-icious.”

In Friday’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” Fieri “dives into dumplings from around the world,” as the episode description says. What does that mean? According to the synopsis, “A Japanese joint in Cincinnati fires up meaty gyozas, while a Nepalese spot in Oregon showcases their traditional fare. In Los Angeles, a Lebanese-Armenian oasis puts out a dumpling dish.”

The Nepalese spot in Oregon is High Camp Taphouse, in Sisters. The business website describes High Camp Taphouse as a “destination for Himalayan cuisine, local craft beers and ciders, and warm hospitality in Sisters, Oregon.”

High Camp Taphouse was founded by Nurbu and Pema Sherpa, who, as the website says, are “long-term Central Oregon residents and seasoned hospitality stewards.” The menu includes a selection of Himalayan specialties, including momos (Tibetan dumplings), curries, stir-fried noodle dishes, Himalayan burgers, lassis (yogurt and mango smoothies), and chai, along with craft beers, ciders and kombuchas from the Pacific Northwest.

The restaurant is also “also committed to making a difference in the world,” as the website says, with a portion of the business profits going toward “helping marginalized populations in Nepal access schooling. Pema runs dental clinics in remote Himalayan areas and implements a program to provide education for kids and teach income-generating skills to Nepali women. Her current focus is the Musahar (mice eaters) in Southern Nepal: an impoverished untouchable community facing remarkable levels of discrimination.”

Fieri’s other central Oregon stops during this season of “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” have included the vegan food cart A Broken Angel, Anita’s Kitchen Gourmet Indian Food, and Big Ski’s Pierogis, all in Bend.

“Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” airs at 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18 on Food Network.
