Fire restrictions in effect on BLM public lands in Oregon, Washington
Fire restrictions prohibiting fireworks, certain types of ammunition and more are in effect for all Bureau of Land Management public lands in Oregon and Washington.
As warmer and drier weather comes to the Pacific Northwest, the restrictions that went into effect May 24, 2024, are designed to reduce the risk of human-caused fires. The restrictions expire Oct. 31, 2024.
The use of fireworks, exploding targets or metallic targets, steel component ammunition, tracer or incendiary devices, and sky lanterns are prohibited.
“Although we had a wet winter, we must still be careful with activities that can cause a spark,” Anita Bilbao, the BLM associate state director for Oregon and Washington, said in a news release.
People who violate the restrictions can face fines up to $100,000 and up to one year of imprisonment. Some areas may have additional restrictions, like prohibitions against campfires. You can find the latest list of restrictions and fire-related closures on the BLM website.
