Stimulus check update: Direct payment worth up to $1,000 to be issued in New Mexico in four days

New Mexicans will receive tax rebates worth up to $1,000 from the state in four days.

All residents of the state who filed their 2021 taxes are eligible. Single filers will receive $500, and married couples filing jointly will receive $1,000.

Those who have selected the option can have their funds delivered via direct deposit, which will be sent out on June 20. The rest will be issued paper checks, which will be printed between June 20 and June 29, according to KOAT 7.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-NM) touted the rebates in a statement, saying it was a personal priority for her.

“Prices for basic necessities continue to be high across the nation,” she said. “Our state today is in a fantastic financial position, and it’s important to me that New Mexico’s families are sharing in that success.”

Taxpayers who have moved to a different address since filing their 2021 tax return can update their address using the Taxpayer Access Point self-service portal on New Mexico’s Taxation and Revenue Department website or submit a change of address form to the department.

Taxpayers who have changed their banking information since submitting their 2021 tax returns will get their rebates through a check in the mail.

Taxpayers who have not filed their 2021 returns still have time to file. The deadline is May 31, 2024.
