New Mexico Senate flies through four bills Tuesday – Source New Mexico

The New Mexico Senate passed four bills on Tuesday afternoon with little to no debate.

Here’s the recap that goes almost as quickly as these bills moved on the floor:

Senators passed Senate Bill 127 in a 36-0 vote, which would allow psychiatrists to prescribe non-psychiatric medications for the side effects caused by medications approved for the treatment of mental disorders.

Two minutes later, they passed Senate Bill 88 in a 38-0 vote, which would allow people to get digital driver’s licenses along with their physical ones.

Eight minutes later, they passed Senate Bill 37 in a 39-0 vote, which would create a state meat inspection program pending federal approval.

Three minutes later, they passed Senate Bill 116 in a 38-0 vote, which would move the tobacco settlement permanent fund out of the state’s reserves and into a fund that will get a better return on investment.

In order to become law, all four pieces of legislation still need to go through the entire committee process in the House of Representatives, then a full vote, then be signed by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham.
