Location: 7 miles north of the village of Coyote, NM burning within the Chama River Canyon Wilderness in the Coyote Ranger District

Start Date: May 19, 2024

Size: 450 acres

Cause: Lightning

Vegetation: Ponderosa pine, mixed conifer

Resources: 1 helicopter, Carson and Sacramento Hot Shot crews, 4 engines, equipment, and fire management personnel.

Highlights: The fire is keeping in the footprint. All operations are normal. The Carson IHC and Sacramento IHC are working the north end with H-312 doing bucket work.

No risk to people or property. Local communities may experience smoke impacts especially at night.

The Northern New Mexico Type 3 team will assume command of the Indios Wildfire tomorrow morning (5/22).
