The Nevada City Methodist Church will be hosting a prayer vigil in support of immigrants on Wednesday, April 16 from 6-8 PM. The vigil is offered to provide a quiet reflective atmosphere for the public to reflect on what motivates them to feel empathy and support for immigrants in our community and nation. The church is located at 433 Broad Street, at the top of the hill.
The invitation to attend is intended to be inclusive of many different denominations of faith and secular backgrounds. People will be able to see projected some of the motivating principles from various faith and secular traditions that speak to human rights of immigration. Attendees may also write additional reflections that arise from their personal contemplation to have read aloud.
Susan Hopkins, a member of Nevada City United Methodist and one of the organizers for this vigil, said “There are people who are concerned for the welfare of our immigrant neighbors who desire a way to express that concern, but are not yet attracted to rallies, speeches, demonstrations and protests. This vigil is for them, as well.” Contact information will be available to take home for those who wish to learn more about groups and activities to support immigrants at risk in our community.
