A trooper with the Nevada State Police was involved in a shooting involving a reckless driver across parts of south Reno late Saturday night.

Just before 10 p.m. on June 10, troopers responded to reports of a reckless driver near the area of I-580 and Mt. Rose Highway. The trooper eventually caught up with the driver in the area of Veterans Parkway and Geiger Grade but police say the driver didn’t stop and took off.

The trooper decided not to chase the suspect but broadcasted the vehicle type for others to be on the lookout for. A short time later, a second trooper saw the car and driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of South Virginia Street in the area of Kietkze Lane. The trooper caught up with the driver eastbound on Moana Lane just west of I-580 and noticed the car was missing the left rear tire and was driving on the rim. The trooper initiated a traffic stop and that’s when authorities say the shooting happened.

Police did not release additional information about what led to the shooting but said the suspect was taken into custody and booked into the Washoe County jail.
