Nevada sees increase in active registered voters in January

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Nevada Secretary of State Franciso Aguilar says the number of active registered voters grew by more than 9,000 between December and January, bringing the statewide total to slightly more than 1.9 million.

The Republican party saw the biggest increase with 6,749. Democrat active voters climbed by 1,757, with the number of voters registered as non-partisan growing by a little more than a thousand.

Despite the big bump in GOP voters, most of Nevada’s voters remain independent. Of the 1,933,056 active registered voters in the state:

  • 637,227 are Nonpartisan (32.96%);
  • 595,943 are Democrats (30.83%);
  • 559,743 are Republicans (28.96%);
  • 84,120 are members of the Independent American Party (4.35%);
  • 16,296 are members of the Libertarian Party of Nevada (0.84%); and
  • 39,727 are members of other minor political parties (2.06%).

It’s that majority of independent voters that makes Nevada a battleground state, simply because those registered non-partisans aren’t predictably voting along party lines. That means you can expect to see a lot of campaigning here as we move closer to the November 5 General Election.
