Nevada, national leaders speak on Middle East conflict
As the Middle East conflict continues, politicians across the country are sharing their views on the situation.
On Sunday, Senator Mark Kelly (D-Arizona) paid a visit to Reno for a Democratic campaign fundraiser at the Neil Road Recreation Center.
At the event, he criticized the Trump administration’s actions.
“I think the president went into this conflict without having a strategic goal. Without having a plan and without having the timeline and what happens then is you don’t have a way to exit a conflict, so I’m really concerned about putting more Americans’ lives at risk with no explanation as to why,” said Kelly.
Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo recently released a statement on the Iran attacks.
“Iran has long been a threat to the United States, Israel, and any hope of peace in the Middle East. They must never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon,” Lombardo said. “Right now, my priority is the safety of all Nevadans. Increased police presence may be seen at certain locations as we continue to monitor and synchronize with partners as the situation evolves.”
And prices at the pump are skyrocketing here in northern Nevada, and around the country. It’s partially due to traffic stalling in the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway between Iran and Oman, which controls roughly 20% of the world’s oil supplies.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright aimed to ease concerns over rising costs.
“The world is very well supplied with oil right now. The United States is a net oil exporter, we’re a net natural gas exporter… We’re communicating with our allies abroad. The oil is there,” Wright said.
But Senator Kelly says gas prices could keep rising.
“This war in Iran is gonna drive up energy costs. Gasoline prices are gonna go up. Just driving down the road here, I noticed it was about $4.50 a gallon for a gallon of gasoline,” Kelly said.
Las Vegas (Nev.) Arbor View quarterback Thaddeus Thatcher announced his commitment to Oregon State and broke down why he chose the Beavers.
After taking official visits to Oregon State, UNLV, UCF and Michigan, the talented signal caller announced for the Beavers moments ago.
“I’m very excited about my decision,” Thatcher said. “Coach Shep (Jamarcus Shephard) has assembled a really great staff and I’m really excited to work with coach (Mitch) Dahlen.
“Coach Dahlen has worked with so many draft picks and it’s really exciting to have the opportunity to be developed by someone like him.”
The potential to compete for early playing time was another big factor for Thatcher.
“They’re going to give me a chance to compete for a spot right away,” Thatcher said. “That’s something I was interested in and so I’m excited about the opportunity.
“My whole family gets along with the entire Oregon State staff and we really believe in Coach Shep. I really think he’s going to be able to get things back on track and I’m excited to be a part of that.”
We originally had a commit prediction in for Michigan with Thatcher and there was strong buzz he was close to committing following his unofficial visit back in early April.
Thatcher decided to take his official visits instead and the Beavers hosted him on May 29. Oregon State started to build momentum with Thatcher following the trip and the Beavs were able to hold off strong competition.
Thatcher is one of the region’s top dual-threat quarterbacks and two-sport athletes. He’s a talented basketball player as well but his fixture is on the grid-iron.
As a junior, Thatcher completed 168-240 passes (70%) for 2,625 yard and 29 touchdowns with just five interceptions. He also rushed for 605 yards and seven more scores and will be a four-year starter for the Aggies, one of the top teams in the state.

RENO, Nev. — As electric vehicle ownership continues to climb in Nevada, experts say one question is becoming increasingly important: Can the state’s charging infrastructure keep pace?
New consumer research from, Yardi Matrix, found Nevada ranks sixth in the nation for electric vehicle growth, with registrations increasing nearly 420% over the past five years.
At the same time, Nevada is outperforming much of the country when it comes to charging access for renters. About 14% of multifamily housing units in the state offer EV charging, placing Nevada ahead of more than half of the nation.
Still, researchers say one key difference separates Nevada from some neighboring states.
Unlike California and several other states, Nevada does not require new multifamily housing developments to include electric vehicle charging infrastructure or EV-ready parking spaces.
Instead, developers decide whether to install chargers, often viewing them as an amenity that can help attract and retain tenants.
States take the wheel: Report looks at fragmented EV policies after federal rollbacks
“What you see in those other states is a state mandate that says if I’m going to build, I have to be ready or capable,” said a market analyst with Yardi Matrix, Douglas Ressler. “Nevada follows California vehicle sales very closely, but it lacks a multifamily EV building code mandate.”
Nevada has relied on incentives and rebates rather than statewide requirements to encourage EV infrastructure.
As more Nevadans switch to electric vehicles, charging access at apartment communities will become increasingly important, particularly for renters who cannot install chargers at home.
If Nevada were to require EV-ready infrastructure in future apartment developments, lawmakers would likely need to pass legislation establishing statewide requirements for new multifamily construction.
For now, researchers say Nevada’s growing EV market will continue to test whether voluntary investment by developers can keep pace with rising demand.
