Mound House brothel extensively damaged by fire
MOUND HOUSE, Nev. (KOLO) –9:10 P.M. UPDATE: A fire heavily damaged the Kit Kat Ranch brothel Thursday night in Mound House.
There were no injuries and the investigation into the cause will resume Friday during daylight after the burned site cools down, Central Lyon County Fire Protection Chief Rich Harvey said.
“It’s pretty extensive,” Harvey said of the damage. “About half the building is heavily impacted.”
“At least a portion not usable in the near term,” Harvey added.
People reported seeing smoke coming out of the front of the building at about 6:15 p.m. Fire crews arrived and started attacking the flames from the front but they spread into the ceiling, so firefighters focused their attacks there.
The building’s design included false ceilings and that helped spread the fire through the attic and through the heating and air conditioning system, the chief said.
Crews from two stations and a volunteer crew eventually got the flames knocked down in the attic and then attacked the first story flames.
Nine employees evacuated, Harvey said. There were no customers.
Crews from the Carson City Fire Department and the East Fork Fire District also assisted.
