Victims Fight Back. 21 Shocking New Cases Reported In Montana

Unfortunately as we have read recently, our beautiful state of Montana has become a hot spot for drugs. With an uptick of Fentanyl and cocaine specifically, some of our Montana towns are suffering more than others from the increase.

Drugs are not the only growing issue in the state. We are seeing more crime, both violent and nonviolent and this comes with the growing population.

One reoccurring violent crime that is on the rise, especially right here in Gallatin County is cases involving strangulation. In 2017, Montana law made the first offense of strangulation a felony in hopes of the number of victims decreasing.

Fast forward to 2024 and being only 3 months in, we are seeing record numbers of strangulation cases already. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 21 strangulation referrals already.

A sad reality that comes with the 21 strangulation referrals, is the idea that those are only the ones that have been reported. One has to wonder how many more victims there are that do not report the violence for whatever reason that may be.

Many victims try to protect those around them before putting their own protection first. Some stay to protect the children, IF they leave, what will happen to the kids? Pets are another reason some victims stay. Feeling like there is no where to turn or facing retaliation are also both reasons victims stay in an unfavorable situation.

Montana has services, agencies, and safe places for victims (and their kids/family members) to go in any time of need.
