Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash near Hardin

A pedestrian is dead following a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning on Old U.S. Highway 87 near Hardin, according to the Montana Highway Patrol.

A crash report indicates the incident happened around 2:54 a.m. on Jan. 18 near mile marker 44. Investigators report a Volkswagen Jetta was traveling eastbound when it struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway. The vehicle then fled the scene.

The pedestrian, an 18-year-old man from Crow Agency, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old man from Crow Agency, was not injured. A 21-year-old female passenger, also from Crow Agency, was not injured.

Alcohol, drugs, and speed are not suspected factors in the crash. Road conditions were reported as clear and dry at the time.

The crash remains under investigation by the Montana Highway Patrol.
