BOISE, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — On Monday we reported that Holt Arena in Pocatello might get a new name. On Tuesday, the Idaho State Board of Education went ahead and approved that name change.

It will be known as the ICCU Dome.

Idaho Central Credit Union has committed $6 million, which includes the naming rights for the next 12 years.

Annual installments will support scholarships, as well as investments in coaching staff and several key initiatives required by the Big Sky Conference strategic plan.

“These are not frivolous ones on a wish list; they are required initiatives,” exclaimed Idaho State University Athletic Director, Pauline Thiros. “And importantly, they are the right things to do, and they’re vital to serving our mission and supporting our students and our student athletes are deserving of that investment.”

Originally called the Minidome in 1970, the facility quickly became a fixture in southeast Idaho.

Holt Arena was named in 1988 after former athletic director, Dubby Holt. The university will still honor Holt with a large mural on the north side of the arena, and in the Hall of Champions in the new alumni center.

The name change will happen at the beginning of the football season.
