Oregon knocked Idaho quarterback Jack Layne out of Saturday’s season opener and for several weeks to come.

Layne broke his collarbone when he was sacked by Ducks defensive tackle Derrick Harmon and hit by defensive end Jordan Burch with 3:23 remaining in Saturday’s 24-14 Oregon win.

Idaho coach Jason Eck announced Layne, who is from Lake Oswego, had surgery and will be out “a while,” Eck said, though he is expected to return this season for the Vandals.

Laybne was 11 of 25 for 168 yards with a touchdown and interception and had eight carries for minus-nine yards with a touchdown against the Ducks.
