Idaho legislature has adjourned sine die
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — After around three months of doing the people’s work, and about two and a half weeks past the original self imposed deadline, the legislature has adjourned sine die.
Over the past few weeks, the two bodies have struggled to finalize things like the health and welfare budget, several trailer bills, and the Idaho Transportation department’s sale of their Boise area campus. Some large pieces of legislation passed. House bill 521 was to help school facilities and property taxes launch the program that funds education for in demand careers. The Department of Agriculture is able to continue it’s fight against the quagga mussel and roads and bridges will get a continued upgrade and investment.
Representative Dustin Manwaring spoke about the bills the House of Republicans are proud of,
“This year the house republicans focused on combatting the rise of illegal drugs and fentanyl in particular so we have mandatory minimum sentences for fentanyl. We reduced the tax burden once again, we lowered the personal and corporate tax rates, we invested record amounts once again in schools and school facilities maintenance and, we strengthened our online child protection”
The passage of the library bill was a struggle to get governor Brad Little’s signature, but finally made it to the end. While education dominated the session, school choice was left on the floor to be resumed next time.
