Suspect in Hawaii Island teen’s kidnapping charged; bail set at $2M
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The suspect who set off an intense islandwide manhunt after allegedly kidnapping a 15-year-old woman from a Hawaii Island seashore was charged Monday afternoon with a number of felony counts.
Hawaii Island police stated Duncan Kealoha Mahi, 52, was charged with first-degree intercourse assault, two counts of kidnapping, and terroristic threatening, in addition to theft and meth trafficking.
His bail was set at $2 million.
Mahi stays behind bars as he awaits his preliminary look in courtroom for the crimes Tuesday morning.
He was apprehended by Hawaii Island cops on Saturday afternoon, not lengthy after eagle-eyed good Samaritans acknowledged the kidnapped teen in a Hilo cafe and whisked her to security.
Mahi allegedly kidnapped the teenager at knifepoint from the world of Anaehoomalu Bay about 1:30 p.m. Friday.
Her boyfriend was reported to be together with her on the time and was allegedly tied up, members of the family stated.
The kidnapping triggered a MAILE AMBER alert by which authorities requested residents to name 911 if she was noticed.
