School meals will be free for 6 Maui schools impacted by wildfires
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Six Maui schools will provide free meals for all students for the remainder of the school year due to a federal food program aimed at serving students who attend schools in high-poverty areas.
Hawaii DOE says this will provide some relief for Maui families impacted by the wildfires.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture approved the Hawaii State Department of Education to qualify the schools for the Community Eligibility Provision program, effective Feb. 1.
There are four schools in Lahaina: King Kamehameha III Elementary, Princess Nāhiʻenaʻena Elementary, Lahaina Intermediate, and Lahainaluna High.
As well as Kihei and Kula Elementary.
